The year 2022 marks the 30th anniversary of China and South Korea’s diplomatic ties, as well as the year of cultural exchanges between the two countries. On October 8th, Ningbo Cultural Tourism’s “Experience Ningbo” store opened in Goyang City, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. The opening ceremony was hosted by Kim Hong-jin, executive of Varkeundaall Entertainment. Over 50 Korean influencers, actors, and marketing experts were present. Notable participants included the star Kim Do-yeon and director Kim San-gyeom of the movie “Illusion”, and Kim Chang-man, the producer and executive director of the first CCTV-KBS collab series “Beijing, My Love”.

Through videos, photos, and Korean-language travel guides, the opening ceremony showcased Ningbo’s unique culture and rich tourism resources, including famous destinations such as the Tianyige Museum, Moon Lake Scenic Area, Xikou Xuedou Temple in Fenghua District, Zhou Su Ye Jiang, Fishing Festival in Shipu, Xiangshan County, Gulou (Drum Tower), Ningbo Zhoushan Port, Hangzhou Bay Bridge, Dongqian Lake, and Laowaitan (Old Bund). Flower fields, vegetable- and fruit-picking farms, camping grounds, sports facilities, wellness resorts, restaurants, night cruise, performances were also featured.

The Ningbo Cultural Tourism Experience Exhibition “NINGBO Ancient Port, Peaceful City” and award-winning photography works from the “Coastal Tourism City of Ningbo” exhibition were displayed at the event, marking their debut in South Korea. The photos depicted Ningbo’s majestic port, cross-sea bridge, Buddha statute, and coastline, captivating visitors with the city’s seaside charm. The exhibition also showcased the works of contemporary artist Lin Haiyong, associate professor at Ningbo City College of Vocational Technology, which symbolize Ningbo’s vibrant energy and trendiness.

Ningbo is located at the intersection of the Chinese Mainland’s coastline and the 30th parallel north. Its seafaring civilization was born 8,000 years ago with the Jingtoushan culture. As a coastal port city with the quaintness of a southern Chinese water town, an economic hub of southern Yangtze Delta, a nationally-recognized city of history and culture, and one of China’s first “outstanding tourism destination cities”, Ningbo is transforming into a modern coastal metropolis, a global maritime center, as well as a cultural heartland of the new era and a modern coastal tourist city.

The “Top Ten Views” of Ningbo—Maritime Silk Road Port, Grand Canal Departure, Great Oriental Port, Front Bay Wetland, Ningbo Blue Bay, Mt. Mei Green Island, Lake Resort, Asia Sailing Bay, Shipu Fishing Harbor, and Stone Forest on the Sea—were presented as emblems of Ningbo’s coastal culture, seaside beauty, and Song Dynasty maritime traditions. Notably, Ningbo’s “Top Five Tourism Experiences”, nominated in celebration of the National Day Holiday, and over a hundred cultural tourism programs were showcased at the event. Huge posters caught the eye of many visitors.

The opening ceremony also included a trivia game about Ningbo’s culture and tourism. In-depth discussions on future cooperation proposed virtual tourism and exhibitions as a way to enhance mutual learning and understanding in the future. When the pandemic ends, Ningbo and South Korea will implement more partnership projects and jointly advance mutually-beneficial cultural tourism growth.
