New Lenox, IL, USA – October 21, 2021 – The average American consumes 3.4 pounds of candy over Halloween – a staggering fact that has led VitaLife in New Lenox, IL, to offer the candy buyback. VitaLife would like to invite families with children to bring in their collected Halloween candy, and in return, VitaLife can “buy it back” with toys and prizes. “Our hope is to raise awareness of just how much sugar we consume on Halloween,” says Davis Jasper, owner of VitaLife.
With 158 million Americans participating in Halloween each year, drastic measures are in order to help curb negative health benefits resulting from the popular holiday. $2.08 billion is spent each year on 600 million pounds of candy alone, with trick-or-treaters needing to walk 180 miles or 60 hours to burn off what they eat in sugar.
Operation Care Package will be taking the bought-back candy and sending it overseas to deployed military personnel in an effort to make serving the country a little sweeter. The soldiers will be distributing some of the candy to children in other countries to help build relationships between the American soldiers and the local children.
Candy will be weighed, and in exchange, participants will receive tickets that will be redeemed for toys and prizes. Participants must be 12 years or younger and accompanied by an adult.
